HKUST Launches Next-Generation Interactive WavyOcean 3.0 Platform | Connecting Research and the Public through the “Taohai” Concept
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has launched the new WavyOcean Digital Twin Earth System Version 3.0, making its ocean science accessible to researchers, educators and the public. The platform is built around the “Taohai” concept — connecting people with the sea through interactive, data-rich visualization.
WavyOcean 3.0 brings together satellite observations, in-situ measurements and high-resolution models of the regional ocean. Users can explore currents, temperature, biogeochemistry and extreme events in a living digital twin of the Earth system.
The Department of Ocean Science leads the effort as part of its mission to advance marine conservation, climate understanding and sustainable management of ocean resources at local, regional and international levels.
